World Economic Forum
During the celebration of the World Economic Forum in Cape Town on 5 and 6 September, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce (SCC) actively participated in the presentation of ProFuturo’s launch of an educational project in South Africa with the Thabo Mbeki Foundation.
A formal event, sponsored by Discovery was held on Thursday evening. The senior leaders of ProFuturo, the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and the Secretary of State for Commerce, Ms Xiana Mendez (highlighted the social involvement of the Spanish companies in South Africa to the guests), the Minister of Basic Education of South Africa, Ms Angie Motshekga and Former President Mr Thabo Mbeki himself were all present at the event.
During a charity dinner on Friday evening, 6 September, attended by the Minister of Tourism, Mr Kubayi Ngubane, the former President Thabo Mbeki himself, stressed his appreciation to the Spanish companies, Fundación Telefónica and Fundación la Caixa, for their commitment and efforts in bringing ProFuturo to South Africa.
The Spanish Chamber of Commerce RSA, Chairman, Mr Jose Maria Segurola, who is also a director of CaixaBank in South Africa, and who also collaborates through the La Caixa Foundation in several projects in South Africa, as well as Mr Roberto Gomez Crespo another board member of the SCC, played integral roles in the success of both events.
